These blue cheese stuffed figs can be an elegant appetizer for any party but don't limit yourself. They're still a treat before a simple summer meal like souvlaki, grilled mustard chicken or summer zucchini zoodles.

    • Grilled Figs Stuffed with Blue Cheese

    Ingredients

The entire fig is edible and their smooth, sweet taste pairs well with cheese, cured meats, nuts, vinegar and honey. It's a combination you've just got to try!

    • Fresh figs - Black Mission or green Kadota figs are the two types I see.
    • Prosciutto - The salty rich taste of prosciutto is perfect with figs.
    • Blue cheese - I prefer a soft blue cheese like Gorgonzola or Cambazola.
    • Walnuts - Lightly toasting these makes them next level!
    • Brandy - A small flavour enhancer that's all part of the magic.
    • Optional – Balsamic vinegar, balsamic glaze or honey can be added as a finishing touch but is not essential.

See recipe card for exact amounts.

    Instructions

Figs can be a bit delicate to work with so be gentle and don't rush. Use a few toothpicks for each fig if needed. Make up to a day in advance if you want to relax with your guests and just pull them out of the fridge when you're ready to cook.

    Substitutions & Variations

Prosciutto - Substitute with pancetta. It has a different taste but pairs well with the rest of the ingredients. I do not recommend bacon.

Cheese - If you're not a fan of blue cheese try a soft, creamy goat cheese.

Brandy - Omit for an alcohol free appetizer.

    Top Tip

Find and save a few favourite recipes for ingredients you might not use often, like fresh figs. I have lots of recipes ini every category but only two that I think of when I see fresh figs. This one and a thin crust pizza with caramelized onions, roasted garlic, spinach, pine nuts and figs. Two winning recipes!

    Recipe FAQs

Yes blue cheese is gluten free and safe to eat for anyone on a gluten free diet. The Spruce Eats has an extensive article titled Blue Cheese Is Gluten-Free: A Research Update.
