These are the best kitchen gadgets I have and use regularly. They're useful gifts that make life in the kitchen easier and that's something gluten free cooks need. Read to the end for ideas to turn them into a more substantial gift.

Great Graters
Cooking shows have shown us that home cooks can have the same fancy tools chefs use. Microplane graters are handheld gadgets to grate garlic, ginger, chocolate, cheese and spices. Microplane is a brand known for their high quality, razor sharp graters and zesters. They have different lengths and widths with varying sizes of holes to grate coarse, medium or fine. They're quick and easy to use so everyone needs a few.
Best Hand Juicer
There's nothing like the fresh taste of citrus zest and juice in both sweet and savoury recipes. When I juice limes for guacamole I use the best hand-juicer ever. They come in orange, yellow and green to match the fruit they are intended to juice. Remember, sets are always fun!
Spice Funnel
I use this little stainless steel funnel to refill my pepper mill and all my spice bottles. It's a small, inexpensive gadget that is very useful.
Mandoline Slicer
A mandoline has razor sharp blades and it gets the job done. I don't use mine often but when I want perfectly sliced potatoes to make Scalloped Potatoes or see-through thin cucumber for my Sushi Pizza I pull out my mandoline.

Portion Scoops
Every kitchen needs portion scoops. Use them to serve up ice cream, make perfect little meatballs or dozens of cookies all the same size. They make many jobs quick and easy and the uniform size is ideal for baking and makes a nice presentation. Buy a set of three and you'll never regret it.
Label Maker
Laugh at my Dymo label maker but I learned about different gluten free ingredients by labeling them in my kitchen. Whether I want to know how much xanthan gum to add to a cup of flour or learn that glutinous rice flour is the same as sweet rice flour, I did it with labels. In the fridge and freezer labels serve as reminders of what I can make for dinner.
Digital Kitchen Scale
A digital kitchen scale, with easy to read numbers, is a must for gluten free cooks. It is essential for weighing gluten free flour but can be used to weigh meat, pasta, vegetables and more.
Whisks and Strainers
No kitchen is complete without a variety of wire whisks and strainers. Buy them individually or in sets, silicone coated whisks come in fancy colours too. Three sizes of each, whisks and strainers will guarantee you have the right size for the right job. That's what you want to know the joy of cooking!
Measuring Cups
Proper measuring cups are essential for success. For best results cooks should use dry measuring cups for dry ingredients and liquid measuring cups for liquid ingredients. There's nothing like having the right tool for the right job! Here are a few ways I use different ones.
- Oxo angled measuring cups (set of 4) are read with the cup flat on the counter and you look down to read the measurement. I like the small one for measuring tablespoons when I make salad dressing. The i-cup or 2-cup size are also great for slowly pouring oil to make things like mayo and sauces.
- For some sauces I measure right into a 2-cup or 4-cup pyrex measuring cup so I have one less bowl to clean up.
Brown Sugar Disk
If you know anyone who still puts a slice of bread in their brown sugar to keep it soft give them a brown sugar disk. Even if you will never eat in their house we should encourage the end of that little practise. Soak the disk in water for twenty minutes and push it to the bottom of the container of brown sugar. Repeat whenever you fill up the sugar, sooner if it gets hard. They have cute designs and are sold individually or in sets of 6 or 4.
