This easy homemade raspberry sauce is a decadent summer treat that I make with raspberries from my garden. No matter where you get your berries they're at their peak in July and August so make all your favourite recipes with raspberries.

A Mason jar of Raspberry Sauce surrounded by a raspberry branches and fresh berries with a ladle to serve it. this gluten free recipe

A simple dessert of ice cream and raspberry sauce is the perfect ending to any summer menu. From burgers to grilled chicken with apple rings you can't go wrong with simple.

    Ingredients

I always use fresh raspberries but I'm sure you can use frozen ones with excellent results.

    • Raspberries - They must be fresh!
    • Sugar - Raspberries are tart so the recipe needs sugar.
    • Lemon juice - The perfect acid to make the finished sauce.

See recipe card for exact amounts.

    Substitutions

Raspberries - I said they must be fresh but you can use frozen. It just doesn't sound as exciting.

White Sugar - I don't have a lot of experience with sugar substitutions. I'm trying to eat less foods that contain sugar and focus on getting my 30 plants a week. From what I hear and read, coconut sugar and monk fruit sweetener sound like the best options, compared to agave or artificial sweeteners.

Variations: How To Use Raspberry Sauce

Once you've got homemade raspberry sauce in your fridge you can use it in many different ways. Here are my top five!

    • For this decadent summer treat, Raspberry Swirl Cheesecake Brownies.
    • Drizzled over whipping cream on top of a piece of Quinoa Chocolate Cake.
    • Served with Grilled Peaches, a simple summer dessert with the freshest peaches you can find!
    • Make Raspberry Butter then slather it on muffins, scones or biscuits.
    • Call it raspberry syrup and you won't have to tell anyone to pour it on pancakes, waffles or crepes. You can even swirl some into a pancake bake.

Get The Tools: Jars and Labeling

I pour my raspberry sauce directly into jam jars and use my label maker to label it. For a perfect hostess gift simply pop that jar into a cellophane bag and tie it with a pretty ribbon. Anyone would be happy to receive a homemade gift like that!

    Top Tip: K.I.S.S.

For gluten free eaters K.I.S.S. means Keep it Simple and Safe. To prevent cross contact with gluten in your kitchen, or cross contamination with anything, you need a strict no double dipping rule. A clean utensil in every jar, every time. Storing any sauce in smaller jars helps too, and you've got a back up if someone forgets the rule as they're learning. I always hide a jar in the back of my fridge to top White Chocolate Mousse Shots for New Year's and my Valentine's Chocolate Cake.

    Instructions

    • Heat berries and sugar over low heat, stirring occasionally. Simmer 10 minutes.

    • Put strainer over a bowl and pour mixture into strainer. Using the back of a wooden spoon press on the berries to extract as much juice as possible. Discard seeds and pulp.
