    Nutella Chocolate Mousse

Nutella Chocolate Mousse is a naturally gluten-free, two-ingredient dessert that feels effortlessly elegant. Served in liqueur glasses, it looks fancy while making cross contact at parties a non-issue. Use whatever small glasses you have on hand, from Mason jars to sherry glasses, and this simple dessert might just be the star of the party.

Ten Nutella Mousse shots each topped with a toasted hazelnut. this gluten free recipe

Mousse, especially small portions, are the perfect ending to a stand up charcuterie party or a casual cheese fondue night. For a large party I like to make a nice display and serve both this Nutella Chocolate Mousse and White Chocolate Mousse.

    Ingredients

Here's a Fun Food Fact: Gianduja is the original Italian paste made from chocolate and ground hazelnuts. High quality gianduja contains up to 50 percent hazelnuts while Nutella is less than 15 percent hazelnuts. But we all know Nutella isn't a health food but it's easy to find and loved by many.

    • Nutella & whipping cream - As simple as that!
    • Optional garnish: hazelnuts - Sometimes called filberts, you will find these in the baking aisle at any grocery store.

See recipe card for exact amounts.

    Instructions

The mousse will start to set as soon as it is cold so portion it directly into the glasses you're serving it in. To avoid blobs of chocolate on the edge of your glasses use a long handled ice tea spoon. The more times you do it the better your process gets and the easier it becomes.

    Serving

Serve tried-and-true recipes for less stress and put your effort into the presentation. For my presentation below I used red charger plates, a set of table mirrors, and a few pedestal trays because "everything looks better on a pedestal tray."

    Substitutions

Canned Whipped Cream - Do not substitute real whipping cream with the spray can whipped cream. I have no idea if it will work, I just know that it's a food-like substance, the kind I'm trying to eat less of. Gluten free cooks often lean into whole food after reading labels and learning more about food manufacturing. Eating better is a lifelong pursuit so just keep going.

    Get The Dishes

When you make dessert you get to serve it however you want. Whether you prefer casual or fancy, tiny or a little generous, buy the dishes you like and have fun with the presentation. Here are some options.

    • 2.5 oz clear liqueur glasses
    • 2 oz shot glasses with coloured base (these are the ones I have)
    • The cutest ever 2 oz Mason jars with lids or vial shaped 2 oz Mason jar with lids
    • Unique square-shaped 1.8 oz shot glasses or square mini cubes 2oz.

    Top Tip

Be ready! The final touch is the tiny disposable spoons so your guests can eat the dessert. Buy them when you see them and be ready. Look at Dollar stores or hanging in random aisles at the grocery store. I also have a set of twelve espresso spoons that came with my everyday cutlery set. They have many uses in my kitchen, none of which involve espresso.
