The flavourful marinade on these chops is perfectly complemented with grilled vegetables and hummus. It was originally served with warm pita bread, now I make these chickpea flour wraps for a meal worthy of company.

    Ingredients

Once you've got a well stocked Asian pantry, it's a breeze to make all the recipes that catch your eye and peak your interest.

Measuring cups and spoons with all the ingredients for Mongolian Pork Chops.
    • Gluten free soy sauce - a staple and hopefully the only kind of soy sauce you keep in your kitchen
    • White wine vinegar - Balances the marinade
    • Sesame oil - Used as a seasoning this marinade has plenty of it.
    • Garlic & green onions
    • Gluten free Chinese Black Bean Sauce - I've got black beans in my pantry and I make it in 15 minutes. Faster than a trip to the store (where I can't find it anyway).
    • Chile flakes - For a little heat.
    • Pork chops - Boneless or bone-in, your choice

See recipe card for exact amounts.

    Instructions for Grilling Season

I don't often cook on the barbecue, that's my husbands job. The important points are:

    • Learn how long it takes to heat up and pay attention to the temperature
    • Use an instant read thermometer to learn how long it takes to cook the exact foods you like to cook
    • Keep the grill clean
    • Use a grilling sheet to prevent cross contact. Use if for the gluten free foods or the opposite, for the less often cooked gluten-containing foods. Get a system going!

    Substitutions & Variations

Lamb Chops - This marinade works well with lamb chops for a nice change.

Lamb Lollipops - Tiny lamb lollipops make an impressive appetizer platter. They are individual bone-in lamb chops cut from a rack of lamb. They have had the meat on the bone cleaned up a bit, "frenched" is the culinary term, so the bone can be picked up off a tray and eaten like a lollipop.

    Top Tip for Grilling Season

Double the marinade! Then you've got two options:

    1. Pour half over more pork chops and put that container right into the freezer. The chops as they freeze and again when they thaw giving you a second delicious, hot off the barbecue meal a second time.
    2. Put half the marinade into a jar and label it! It will keep in the fridge for a few weeks until you have more chops to marinate.

    Ingredients

    MARINADE

    • ½ cup gluten free soy sauce
    • ¼ cup white wine vinegar
    • 3 tablespoon sugar
    • 3 tablespoon sesame oil
    • 2 tablespoon finely chopped garlic about 6 cloves
    • 2 tablespoon minced green onions
    • 2½ teaspoon gluten free Chinese Black Bean Sauce see notes for recipe
    • 1 teaspoon red chile flakes

    PORK

    • 8 pork chops bone-in or boneless
Prevent your screen from going dark

    Instructions

    • Combine all marinade ingredients in 2-cup measuring cup.
    • Put pork chops in a glass baking dish, or marinating dish, just big enough to hold the meat. Pour marinade over chops. Marinate at room temperature for 45 minutes or overnight in the fridge.
    • Preheat barbecue. Remove chops from marinade allowing most of the liquid to drip off before putting them on the grill.
    • Cook chops to desired doneness, 5-6 minutes per side. Brush with marinade during the first half of cooking time.
    • Cover with foil and let rest 5 minutes. Serve with grilled zucchini, red pepper and hummus for the full fusion experience. Use gluten free pita bread or a chickpea flour wrap to scoop up the hummus.

    Notes

Serve with grilled red peppers, zucchini and lemony hummus. Use chickpea flour wraps or your favourite gluten free pitas for dipping.
